In October 2020, The White Stripes took legal action against former President Donald Trump’s re-election campaign for its unauthorized use of their song “Seven Nation Army.” The Detroit duo, made up of Jack and Meg White, issued a cease-and-desist order against the campaign. Unauthorized use of an artist’s music without their permission is a violation of U.S. copyright law. This was not the first time the Trump campaign was sued for unauthorized use of music; several other artists and groups including The Rolling Stones, Neil Young, and Rihanna have previously taken similar actions.
