Fauci denies seeking to suppress COVID-19 lab leak origin theory

Dr. Anthony Fauci, the U.S.’s top infectious disease expert, has denied accusations that he sought to suppress the theory that COVID-19 leaked from a laboratory in Wuhan, China. Such accusations have been made in relation to his early dismissive attitudes towards the lab leak theory.

Important to note that science continually evolves, and as more information becomes available, ideas and theories can change. Dr. Fauci has emphasized that he believes in keeping an open mind and examination of all possible origins of the virus, while also highlighting that the likelihood of natural occurrence outweighed other theories.

He also voiced concern about some narratives around his initial dismissal of the lab leak theory, stressing that at the start of the pandemic, there was not enough information available to definitively pinpoint the virus’s origins. His stance reflects ongoing scientific investigations to ascertain the true source of the virus.
