Disney has dropped all but the free speech claim in its political retaliation suit against Florida Governor Ron DeSantis. The company was suing DeSantis for his alleged retribution against Disney World of its decision to require guests to wear face masks. Disney argued that the Governor had retaliated by imposing restrictions on state grant funding earmarked for the company. Disney argued that these restrictions constituted a violation of the company’s right to free speech.
However, the company has now dropped all other claims and will focus solely on the free speech claim. Disney is arguing that its right to free speech was violated by the Governor’s alleged retaliatory policies. The company is seeking a declaration from the court stating that DeSantis’s policies were unconstitutional. The.company is also seeking monetary damages from DeSantis for any losses suffered as a result of the alleged retaliatory policies. A hearing for the case is scheduled for March 25th.
