The Alabama Supreme Court has ordered that new congressional maps be drawn up in the state, and experts say that this is likely to mean more gains for Democrats in the state. The new maps will have to adhere to a federal judge’s ruling which stipulates that the maps should be drawn in a way that increases the chances of electing Democrats. This could mean up to three new Democratic-held seats, which would give Democrats a much larger voice in Congress when the mid-term elections happen in 2020. Despite this, Republicans still control six of the state’s seven seats in the House.
