Hunter Biden pardon raises new questions over 5th Amendment ‘loophole’
, with a Congressional Gold Medal
The idea of Congress honoring Major Taylor with a Congressional Gold Medal is an excellent one. Major Taylor was a significant figure in the sports world, and he was the first African American to gain worldwide recognition for his cycling achievements. As both a civil rights leader and an athlete, Major Taylor embodied the spirit of excellence and inclusiveness that is so important to our nation. A Congressional Gold Medal would be a well-deserved recognition for Major Taylor’s lifetime of accomplishments.
In order to proceed with the proposal for Congress to honor Major Taylor with a Congressional Gold Medal, a bill must be introduced in the House of Representatives. The bill needs to be sponsored by a Member of the House of Representatives, and referred to the respective House committee with jurisdiction over medals and awards. The committee will review the information being proposed, and if it meets certain criteria, it will then be ready for a vote of approval. If the resolution passes both the committee and the House of Representatives, it must then pass the Senate as well.
Once the resolution is approved by both houses, a bill can be introduced that authorizes the President to issue a Congressional Gold Medal to Major Taylor. If the bill is passed, the President would then sign the bill into law, and Major Taylor would be awarded the medal. These steps can be taken in order to honor Major Taylor with a Congressional Gold Medal.
