Hunter Biden pardon raises new questions over 5th Amendment ‘loophole’
House Democrats led by Representatives Jim Jordan (R-OH) and Trey Gowdy (R-SC) have subpoenaed former White House counsel Donald McGahn to testify in relation to alleged classified documents involving former Vice President Joe Biden’s son Hunter Biden.
The documents are said to have been discovered in May 2019, and may shed light on any potential roles former Vice President Biden’s family had in foreign dealings with Ukraine and other governments.
Jordan and Gowdy, both members of the House Oversight Committee, are looking to find out who discovered and retained the files as well as the steps that were taken after the documents were discovered.
McGahn, who served as White House counsel during President Donald Trump’s first term, is expected to appear before the committee next month.
