Hunter Biden pardon raises new questions over 5th Amendment ‘loophole’
The Biden campaign has put a premium on holding the former president accountable for everything from his administration’s controversial record on immigration to the disintegration of the nation’s health care system. Now, some Democrats are looking to the Jan. 6 speech by Donald Trump at the Capitol to turn up the heat.
The speech has been the subject of much conversation, being viewed as a potential instigation of violence and those close to the campaign are calling for tougher legal action to be taken, including bringing criminal charges. The Biden campaign has taken notice of the event and has already made it a focus of their messaging and outreach efforts.
The campaign is calling for an independent investigation into the events of Jan. 6, and Biden officials have publicly stated that “no one is above the law.” Biden has already announced a support for the formation of an independent commission to investigate the insurrection at the Capitol, a move that should be applauded.
The Biden campaign also joined those calling for further legal actions to be taken against those who organized and incited the violence, and they are encouraging people to sign a petition demanding that those who perpetuated the violence be held accountable.
At the same time, the Biden campaign is continuing to strengthen its narrative of how a Biden administration would lead the country differently from the Trump White House — emphasizing its commitment to restoring fidelity to the truth, integrity and the rule of law as core values for the nation. Biden has already committed to restoring faith in the rule of law by appointing officials with a commitment to follow the law and to protecting the rights of all Americans.
