Charles Schwab is working with Anthropic to make Claude for Financial Advisors available to more than 16,000 independent registered investment advisers served by Schwab Advisor Services. Schwab disclosed the collaboration in an announcement.
Schwab Advisor Services is the first RIA custodian included in Anthropic’s new adviser product. Participating firms will be able to connect Claude with Schwab Advisor Center through an authenticated connection and use information from custody, customer relationship management, portfolio reporting, financial planning and meeting systems.
The product is intended to support meeting preparation, plan updates, analysis, follow-up drafts and CRM work. Schwab and Anthropic describe these as adviser-support functions, with review and approval remaining with the adviser.
Claude Will Connect to Schwab Advisor Center
The authenticated Schwab connection is designed to let advisers use custodial information within Claude without manually transferring data between applications. Claude for Financial Advisors also includes connectors for other parts of an adviser’s technology stack.
Anthropic says the product provides audit trails, requires adviser approval for actions and does not train its models on client data. Those controls are material in a regulated environment where firms need to supervise communications, protect personal information and reconstruct how an output was produced.
Jon Beatty, head of Schwab Advisor Services, said: “Independent advisors have always succeeded on the strength of their relationships, and relationships are built on advice, service and client experiences that stand apart. AI is exponentially powering the ability of advisors to stand apart in this way, even more so if it is integrated with the proprietary workflows and tech stacks advisors have already built.”
Beatty added: “Anthropic is building AI at the frontier of what’s possible. Bringing this solution directly to our clients, purpose-built for the environment they operate in, is how we help advisors claim the next frontier of advice.”
The model is consistent with a broader move from standalone AI tools toward systems connected to operational data. BGC has applied autonomous AI to an institutional derivatives workflow, and Bloomberg has automated FX options requests through an API.
Advisers Retain Responsibility for Client Work
Peter Nolan, head of asset and wealth management at Anthropic, said: “Our goal is to bring the benefits of AI to as many families as possible, and a direct path runs through the advisors they already trust. Collaborating with Schwab and the 16,000-plus independent RIAs it serves brings Claude to the firms doing that work every day, starting with a clear view of what has changed for each client.”
Claude can assemble information and draft material, but an RIA remains responsible for the advice delivered to a client. Firms will need policies covering permissions, source verification, recordkeeping, privacy, output review and the treatment of model errors.
That distinction is particularly important when an AI system draws from several sources. An incorrect portfolio value, stale planning assumption or mismatched client record can propagate into a polished but inaccurate summary. Audit logs help identify the process but do not guarantee the conclusion.
Alison Dooher, head of AI at Schwab Advisor Services, said: “For RIAs, technology has always been about delivering exceptional service and creating more opportunities to connect on a human level. AI pushes that thinking forward. It takes on more of the work that pulls advisors away from their clients, so they can spend their time where it counts.”
Financial firms are confronting the same governance question in other AI applications. AI surveillance systems can help identify manipulation while still requiring human review. The principle is similar for advice preparation, even though the regulatory risks differ.
Schwab Becomes the First Custodian in the Product
Schwab said it is currently the only RIA custodian integrated with Claude for Financial Advisors. Anthropic’s wider connector set includes portfolio, planning, CRM, alternatives, estate and meeting tools, so the custodian connection is one part of the product rather than its entire data layer.
The companies did not disclose pricing, a complete deployment timetable or adoption targets. Anthropic is scheduled to demonstrate the capabilities around Schwab’s IMPACT 2026 conference, while its own product materials describe ready-made workflows for meeting preparation, follow-ups, CRM updates and compliance checks.
The launch comes as financial platforms seek to consolidate more client activity and information. Multi-asset exchanges are competing through unified accounts, while embedded brokerage providers are integrating infrastructure into third-party products.
For Schwab’s RIA clients, the immediate benefit depends on connector quality and the amount of routine work the system can complete without creating additional review burden. The longer-term test will be whether firms can measure time savings while maintaining advice quality, client confidentiality and supervisory records.
