Judge unseals key filing in special counsel’s election case against Trump
Joe Biden, the 2020 Democratic presidential nominee, has publicly declined to comment on his son Hunter’s refusal to comply with a congressional subpoena.
When asked about the news at a press conference on August 21, 2020, Biden said, “My son’s statement speaks for itself and I have no further comment.” Biden declined to answer additional questions about the matter.
Hunter Biden is facing allegations of corruption related to his business in Ukraine and is refusing to cooperate with a congressional subpoena from Senate Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee Chair Ron Johnson.
Hunter Biden has denied any wrongdoing related to his business dealings. He released a statement on August 17, 2020, saying that he had “great respect for the rule of law and for the integrity of our democratic institutions,” and that he “acted lawfully in all my dealings.”
Joe Biden has maintained for months that he and his family have done nothing wrong and that the allegations against them are politically motivated.
When asked directly about the subpoena sent to his son, Biden continued to refer reporters to Hunter’s statement and declined to comment further. Meanwhile, many of Biden’s supporters have defended his son and criticized Johnson and the Republicans for what they say is a politically-motivated investigation.
